Yellowbrick recognizes the need for alternative developmental platforms for those emerging adults who cannot move forward on campus, in an independent apartment or with family at home. The Residence offers around the clock support and membership in the Yellowbrick community while emerging adults work within The Life Strategies Program (LSP) and productive activity (school, work, community service) within Evanston, a suburb of Chicago. The Residence offers these individuals a meaningful and effective context for personal growth by challenging them with the tasks of independent living while simultaneously providing on an outpatient basis intensive, expert professional resources beyond those available even in most inpatient hospital settings. The Residence is a "Step in and Step Through", not a Step Down settings.
The Residence is located on Sheridan Road just one block from Lake Michigan in the city of Evanston, Illinois - a vibrant community of 75,000 people living within active and diverse neighborhoods. Evanston is located adjacent to the city on Chicago’s North Shore. The Residence consists of newly renovated, sunny large fully furnished apartments. The Residence also includes Community space for group and leisure activities, and administrative offices. Residents live at The Residence and travel to The Consultation & Treatment Center in downtown Evanston where skilled senior clinicians provide professional services including the Life Strategies Program, Specialty Services and Psychotherapy Services described below. Core Competence Staff (CCS) are on-site at The Residence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Yellowbrick Professional Senior Leadership is on-call evenings and weekends for consultation. The role of CCS is to implement distress tolerance skills and related principles by eliciting mindfulness, self-agency, supporting adaptive coping strategies and facilitating the peer community process.
Membership in The Residence is a responsibility and a privilege. Our innovative Open Community treatment model was created as a supportive, not supervisory resource for the emerging adult. Therefore, residents must demonstrate the motivation and capacity to make use of the Yellowbrick Community and services, the commitment to take responsibility for personal safety, and a determination to learn how to ask for, and accept, help when they need it most.
If you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness, please use our confidential contact form to send us a message. Our Assessment Center will respond to you as promptly as possible.
At Yellowbrick, emerging adults find their way home.
