| As a family member of an emerging adult, it’s important for you to learn as much as you can about the complex struggles of this population so that you have the information you need to make informed decisions about the mental health and wellbeing of your loved one. Yellowbrick offers valuable resources for emerging adults and their families, from comprehensive evaluations to family and group therapies. Yellowbrick recommends the following guidelines to families: |
| |

| |
3. |

| |
4. |
Self-reflect about your own role and reactions with your troubled emerging adult. This will facilitate maintaining openness and the possibility for genuine communication. |
| |
5. |
Remember that you and your relationship with the emerging adult is often the most important struggle in their life. This is true no matter what they say or do! |
| |
6. |
Keep a record of behaviors/actions that are of concern to you. Be as detailed as possible – include the duration and recurrence of the behaviors, and their severity. |
| |
7. |
Get professional help immediately if the behaviors you have observed worsen or if you believe your loved one’s life is in danger. Communicate with treatment staff and allow them to assume professional responsibility so you can relate as a parent again. |
